PRESENTED BY THE WYOMING RUGBY ORGANIZATION
Rugby at the University of Wyoming has a long and distinguished history. The men’s team was established as a club sport in 1972. Notable successes to date include 1 national championship runner up, 3 national Final 4 teams, 8 national sweet 16 teams, 17 All Americans, and 5 USA National Team players. The women’s club team was established in the early 1990s and has had 1 national final 8, 1 national sweet 16, and several All American and national team players.
Both UW’s men and women rugby players are primarily Wyoming natives with little prior knowledge of the sport. However, they are able to achieve greatness because they possess a desire to compete and are driven by the Wyoming spirit. They not only work for academic success but have to train strenuously for athletic success. Unfortunately, to pay for their education at the University of Wyoming, most club members also work part-time jobs while pursuing their studies.
Students that are academically strong, dedicated to the team, and Wyoming proud are what UW is known for producing. It is critical that UW continues to attract and retain the highest caliber students who exude the Wyoming spirit by sustaining their education with scholarships.
